The MCG – Why it’s Melbourne’s number 1 attraction
At the heart of Melbourne lies the MCG. The ground, which is the spiritual home of both Australian rules football and cricket is a must see attraction for anyone visiting Melbourne. The best way to see the ground is to attend an Australian Football League blockbuster, when the ground is packed with 100,000 passionate supporters. If you arrive in the off season however you can also see the ground via a tour provided by the MCC (Melbourne Cricket Club).
The ground has a rich history having hosted AFL Grand Finals, Ashes test matches, an Olympics, a Commonwealth games and some of the world’s biggest music acts. During WW2, the ground housed American soldiers who were stationed in the country.
The ground is just a short 15 minute walk from Melbourne’s CBD though the recently redeveloped Burrong-Marr precinct. For those not wanting to walk however the ground can easily be accessed from either Richmond or Jolimont train stations.

What impact would a Brexit have on the price of gold?
With a vote on whether or not the United Kingdom should stay part of Europe fast approaching, economists are scrambling to figure out what the impact of a potential Brexit (British exit) would be on global markets. Such a radical disruption to the status quo would undoubtedly have some fairly major ramifications but whether or not you believe those ramifications will be positive or negative really depends on both your financial and political perspective.
The effect on the gold price is of particular interests for commodity traders but it’s unclear exactly what that effect will be. The golden rule when trading gold is that uncertainty almost always leads to an increase in price. This is because gold is seen as a safer bet than stocks or currency in turbulent times. If this rule holds up then one could fairly safely say that at least in the short term gold prices will continue to rise, at least until traders get a better idea of what a post-Brexit European market looks like.
There are however reasons to be cautious. The actions of the US Federal Reserve impact the price of gold more than any other factor. Before making any important decisions one would have to consider what impact its actions will have on the gold price over the next 6 months. What’s more, when a Grexit seemed likely last year there was no rush to purchase gold nor was there any notable spike in the gold price. The UK’s Brexit would obviously be viewed by the markets as a much more significant event then a Grexit but still, this historical precedent cannot be ignored.
Sample 3: Parody news article on Australian rules football
Man gutted after missing out on player in fantasy draft which he needed to make his team name make sense.
George Stevens is today reeling after missing out on Patrick Dangerfield in his office fantasy draft. Not only did missing out on the key back-man throw his whole draft strategy into disarray, it also made his team name ‘Dangerfield of dreams’ make no sense.
“I thought I’d get him in the first round for sure, but it turns out pick 12 just wasn’t high enough” he told his mum over the phone right after the draft. “I identified that Dangerfield would be a good pick after watching hours of replays and drawing up a mind map like I learnt in year 8. However I mustn’t have been the only one to use a mind map because Dangerfield went with the first pick.”
Stevens is now considering if he should change his team name or keep it in spite of it not having the player to which it alludes. “I really don’t want to go back to ‘Georgie’s boys’ which is what my team has been called since year 11 but it’s looking increasingly like that’s what’s going to have to happen.
A dumb name won’t be the only thing Stevens will be contending with this year as he seeks to not win the wooden spoon for the first time since 2012. In the panic that ensued after missing out on Dangerfield he accidentally drafted Daniel Wells with his first pick and it was all downhill from there.
He took Dennis Armfield with his second pick in a desperate attempt to keep his team name viable even though he has ultimately decided that ‘Armfield of dreams’ just doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. The one saving grace of his draft, according to Stevens was the fact he was able to snare Nic Naitanui with pick three. “It just goes to show how important doing your research is before a draft like this one, obviously my opponent’s mind maps weren’t as good as mine.”
Stevens first match isn’t for a month, but already the punters are backing him to forget to set his lineup for week 1, spit the dummy and refuse to play for the rest of the season.
Sample 4: Article written for essential oils website about the advantages of essential oils
Three reasons why you should consider using essential oils to treat your anxiety
Anxiety is a complex mental illness which has many causes and contributing factors. If you’re struggling with anxiety you should seek professional medical help to find out what the best treatment for you is. Using essential oils is one possible treatment which has numerous advantages over other forms of medication and can be used without a prescription. Below I have listed just three of these advantages.
- They are all natural
While there is certainly nothing wrong with conventional medication, It is understandable that many people would rather try a more natural, less invasive treatment before they resort to anti-anxiety drugs. That’s one of the major advantages of essential oils, they only contain naturally occurring compounds so you know what you’re using comes directly from nature rather than being manufactured in a lab.
- They can be used in several different ways
Many people don’t like taking tablets which is unfortunate because the vast majority of anti-anxiety drugs have to be taken this way. The great thing about essential oils is you can use them just about any way you wish. You can inhale them, breath them in using aromatherapy or apply them topically to your skin.
- They work fast
Some anti anxiety drugs can take weeks to start working. This is very problematic if you’re looking for fast relief from anxiety. The good news is that essential oils don’t take weeks to work, in fact they don’t even take hours. A study done at the university of Vienna found that the healing components of essential oils can be found in the bloodstream just five minutes after application. That means you will start feeling better sooner.
When it comes to treating anxiety it doesn’t have to be either or. You can try conventional medication while also trying essential oils. The important thing is that you consult your doctor and find the solution which best works for you
